Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing (KMM) anchors the sector as a precision manufacturer serving the defense and aerospace industries. KMM sits directly across from the Kerrville-Kerr County Airport, one of the most capable general aviation airports in the Texas Hill Country.
The partnership between KMM and Schreiner University has created a workforce pipeline that’s rare for a community this size. Engineering students work in the KMM-sponsored lab on campus, and aviation students pursue FAA certifications through Schreiner’s flight program based at the airport. That kind of employer-to-education integration makes Kerr County a compelling location for companies in this space.
Advanced Manufacturing
Kerr County has a deep manufacturing tradition and a workforce that knows how to build things. Companies like James Avery Artisan Jewelry, Fox Tank Company, All-Plastics, and Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing have operated here for decades, producing everything from fine jewelry and precision aerospace parts to custom storage tanks and molded plastics. The recently announced Megaacrete facility adds sustainable building materials to that mix.

Kerr County’s healthcare infrastructure gives it a stronger foundation for life sciences than most communities its size. Peterson Health is the region’s primary medical center, and the Kerrville State Hospital adds significant specialized healthcare capacity. Schreiner University provides a growing pipeline of students pursuing health science degrees and certifications.
As Texas continues to build out its life sciences industry cluster, smaller markets with strong healthcare anchors and lower operating costs are attracting real attention. Kerr County is well positioned for companies focused on medical devices, diagnostics, and health technology.
Specialty Food and Beverage
The Texas Hill Country has become one of the most recognized food and wine regions in the state, and Kerr County is squarely in the middle of it. Kerrville Hills Winery, Bending Branch Winery, and Zanzenberg Farm are local examples of what’s possible when agricultural heritage meets entrepreneurial energy.
